How it works

Arrive, pick a time, and know

No tables to decode. What matters comes first; the technical detail is always one tap away.

  1. Pick your site

Use your location, search for it by name or drop a pin on the map. Incaelo measures its real horizon and its light pollution.

  2. Pick the night

Tonight or any night this week. Scrub through it hour by hour, from dusk to dawn.

  3. Read the verdict

A score from 0 to 10, one word that sums it up, and what is worth looking at with your gear.

Features

Everything you need in the field

Made for people who load the telescope into the car and want to get the night right.

The verdict in five seconds

A score from 0 to 10 and one word (excellent, good, fair, poor or terrible) for the time you choose.

Five factors in plain sight

Clouds by layer, transparency, estimated seeing, darkness and terrain, each one explained.

Your real horizon

Terrain is sampled at 193 points up to 10 km around your site. If a mountain hides an object, Incaelo knows.

What to see with your gear

1,830 objects with photo, description and altitude curve, filtered for naked eye, binoculars or your telescope.

Sky map

An interactive chart that follows your compass, with the planets showing the face they turn to us that night.

Sky events

Meteor showers, Moon phases and supermoons visible from your site, with a reminder the day before if you want one.

“Tonight’s the night”

At most one notification a day, when the night reaches the level you choose. Worked out on your phone, no servers.

A real red mode

The whole app in red on true black so you keep your dark adaptation, with the screen at its lowest light.

Works offline

Sun, Moon, planets and stars are computed on your phone. Only the forecast needs a connection, and the last one is kept.

Night vision

Red down to the last pixel

Your eyes take half an hour to adapt to the dark, and one white flash ruins it in a second. In red mode every screen, every photo and every map is redrawn in red on true black.

  • No overlay: the app is redrawn in red, not tinted.
  • Screen light: drops brightness to the system minimum without touching your Android setting.
  • True black on OLED screens: what is not used emits no light.

Honesty

A forecast that makes nothing up

A confident score built on missing data would be worse than no score at all. So Incaelo tells you what it knows and what it does not.

  • Far is shown as far: a night six days out is never painted with tonight’s confidence.
  • When models disagree, it says so: one line under the verdict, nothing averaged away.
  • No fresh forecast, no notification: it never alerts you on stale data.
  • No terrain data, it tells you: it never pretends the horizon is flat.

Your sky is yours

Incaelo has no accounts and no server of its own. Your sites and settings stay on your phone, and your location only leaves it to request the forecast from the services named in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

Incaelo is free, with no ads and no account.

Which phones does it run on?

Android 9 or later.

Do I need a connection in the field?

Not for the essentials: sky positions, the map and the catalogue work offline. The weather forecast does need a connection; without one, the app uses the last forecast it downloaded and tells you it is not recent.

Why does it ask for my location?

To compute the sky from where you are and request the forecast for that point. You can say no and pick the site by searching for it or on the map.

Which languages is it in?

English and Spanish.
